Tyendinaga Township is looking to cap a landfill on Old Highway Two.
CAO Steve Mercer says the township hasn’t dumped waste at the site in over a decade and it’s time to officially close it.
Mercer says council will need to establish a Waste Closure plan which may take years to complete.
The site currently acts as a waste transfer station and Mercer says he hopes that will continue.
Council is also looking at adding to the site by incorporating regular recycling and old electronics recycling.
No timeline has been established by council.
