It’s been years in the making but local recycling changes are coming into effect this week, bringing this area in line with communities throughout Ontario in the province-wide transition to producer-responsibility residential recycling collection .
Extended producer responsibility makes the businesses that sell products and packaging responsible for them over their full life cycle, encouraging companies to make more careful decisions about the materials they use in their packaging and products, and holding them responsible for the cost of recycling those products at the end of their life.
The changes officially happen July 17 when the management of local blue box recycling programs will transition from Quinte Waste Solutions to Circular Materials Ontario.
CMO has contracted E360 Solutions, located on Mineral Road in Belleville, to provide blue box recycling service and will begin collecting blue box material starting the week of July 21 in Belleville, Quinte West, Prince Edward County, Centre Hastings, Tyendinaga Township, Marmora and Lake, Tweed, Madoc Township and Stirling-Rawdon.
While curbside residential recycling collection is continuing in all nine municipalities, your curbside collection day may change as of July 21
In an effort to streamline service, E360 Solutions has updated their collection zones and will begin collecting each households’ garbage, recycling and organics on the same day each week.
All recyclable materials currently collected will continue to be collected.
Additional materials may be collected at the discretion of Circular Materials Ontario and E360 Solutions.
Residents will still have access to household hazardous waste (HHW) disposal at the HHW depot, located on Wallbridge Crescent in Belleville, and through mobile community events hosted in each member municipality.

Industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) collection (i.e. places of worship, BIAs and not-for-profit organizations) has been handled a variety of ways across the nine member municipalities.
Any changes to local ICI collection were to be communicated by your municipality.
