Inefficient insulation not only can cost you money but it’s also bad for the environment increasing energy consumption leading to higher utility bills and greenhouse gas emissions.
A special program by Enbridge Gas helps people learn how and why their home is losing heat and how to resolve the issue.
The Home Winterproofing Program offers free home insulation to qualifying residents helping them save money and conserve energy.
There are income eligibility requirements to take part in the program which has been around for more than a decade and has helped 65,000 Ontario homes become more efficient.
A series of free 1-hour in-person Lunch & Learn sessions are being offered across the province to provide more information about the program.
Enbridge is partnering with energy conservation company 7th Wave to host the sessions.
7th Wave co-founder Kaitlin Gates says the first session will be held at the Quinte West Library November 8 at 11:30 a.m.
Another one will be held in Peterborough at noon on November 15.
“We’re gonna be doing demos using a thermal camera to show them how our homes lose heat and talking to them about the program and how people in the community can apply.”
Gates, who grew up in Quinte West says the community is an ideal place for their first stop.
“Because this is a community that has a lot of older homes that people haven’t had a chance to upgrade. So this is an area where we know that there’s a lot of folks who qualify for the program.”
Gates adds 7th Wave’s mandate is to bring energy efficiency to communities in an accessible manner.
