With the holidays upon us, there is often a lot of extra waste that comes with celebrations with friends and family.
Environmental Solutions 360 is offering these tips for our recycling bins which will likely be a little fuller.
Recycling tips:
- Rinse all plastic containers and jars (containers with food or other residue are sent to garbage from the sorting plant)
- Cut and bundle cardboard as outlined in the guide (don’t leave Styrofoam or plastic in boxes)
- Batteries go to the hazardous waste depot.
- Place containers (plastic/ glass) in one blue bin or bag, place paper, cardboard in one bag or blue bin.
Garbage / organics collection tips:
- Place balled up newspaper in the bottom of your organics bin to keep contents from freezing to the bottom.
- Only food waste and food soiled paper/ cardboard goes in the organics bin ( no pet waste, diapers or yard waste)
- Place your garbage tag around the knot of the garbage bag, with both sides stuck to each other forming a flag.
- Have your waste, organics and recycle to the curb for 7 am on collection day.
And don’t forget to take your bottles back.
Collect all glass bottles from holiday drinks and bring them back to the Beer Store or LCBO.
This is the most efficient way to recycle glass and you get a refund!
Deposit return is meant to enhance the blue box program, allowing for glass to be recycled and reused. Glass is heavy and it takes up a lot of space because it can’t be condensed without breaking, taking up valuable space in your blue box and in the recycling truck.
By returning the bottles to the source, blue box space becomes available to recycle other products like aluminum or plastics.
