The energy regulator in Alberta says oilsands companies are not to blame for the deaths of 196 waterfowl in northeast Alberta.
The birds died after landing in wastewater tailings ponds earlier this month.
The regulator says no rules were broken by Canadian Natural Resources Limited, Suncor Energy and Syncrude as they all employed devices designed to scare the birds away.
Spokesman Ryan Bartlett says the birds still landed on the oily water because of bad weather near Fort McMurray.
