Northumberland County is reminding the public of upcoming seasonal trail closures in the Northumberland County Forest.
• November 1 to May 15: motorized vehicles prohibited on all trails.
• December 1 until March 31: Beagle Club trails reserved for cross-country skiing only. Other non-motorized users (hiking, snowshoeing, horseback riding, biking) are invited to use the Woodland Trails across from Woodland Road. The Carstairs Universal Trail on Bowmanton Road is also open during this time for hiking and snowshoeing.
“The wet fall weather can cause severe trail damage, which is made worse by motorized vehicles,” indicates Forest Manager Todd Farrell. “An eroded trail is dangerous for other trail users, costly to repair and can impede emergency access. In addition, non-ski activities on the Beagle Club trails after December 1st reduce the quality of the ski trail. We ask for the public’s help in taking care of this important community resource so that we can maintain the health of the Forest, and preserve the trails for proper community use year-round.”
