Soil that was dumped on a Tyendinaga Territory property in preparation for a building has been found to be contaminated.
The soil was brought in by controversial businessman Clifford Miracle to build a coffee shop.
The Mohawk Band council asked for the ministry of environment to test the soil.
An Intelligencer report shows the ministry found amounts of lead and other chemicals that were above acceptable limits.
Miracle had the soil removed a few days after it was brought in.
The soil came from a soil recycling company in Pickering.
It’s not known if any of the contaminated soil was left behind on the property.
