Belleville City Council received a report on electric charging stations at municipal locations at council’s meeting on Monday.
During new business at the January 27 council meeting, Councillor Margaret Seu asked for a staff report looking into the installation of EV charging stations in municipal locations and the infrastructure possibility for EV charging stations in the following locations:
- Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre
- Belleville Public Library
- City Hall/Market Square
- Municipal Parks
- Court House Parking Lot
In a report to council, Director of Transportation and Operations Services Joe Reid said staff were able to contact a company that sells EV chargers and received a free feasibility audit of city-owned properties.
The following locations have been identified for preliminary consideration and further assessment, however, final feasibility would be determined through additional investigation and may result in some sites being deemed unsuitable.
- Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre
- Meyers Pier at the end of Front Street
- City Hall Parking Lot on Front Street
If the city were to proceed, it would need to allocate funds to a dedicated capital budget line specific to the initiative.
Council voted to receive the information, but no decision was made.
