Frontenac Arch Bioshpere holds Basecamp Youth Climate Action Summit

This spring more than 160 middle school students from across the Frontenac Arch Bioshpere (FAB) Region came together in Kingston for the first Basecamp Youth Climate Action  Summit to explore what climate action looks like in their own lives and left inspired, connected, and ready to act.

Students moved through a series of fast-paced, hands-on sessions led by educators, community practitioners, and university partners.

Activities ranged from mapping the FAB Region and exploring local climate impacts, to testing waste sorting skills, experimenting with upcycling, learning practical approaches to growing food, and supporting pollinators.

Other sessions focused on climate justice, youth activism, and the global framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The FAB Network says Basecamp was made possible thanks to partners at Queen’s University, the Queen’s University Centre for Community Engagement and Social Change, the Queen’s University STEAM+ Research Group, Queen’s Faculty of Education, the FAB Foundation, and the Gray Environment Fund.

Kingston will also host the seventh annual Youth Climate Action Summit in November.
