After learning a little bit more about the program, Quinte West Council is not quite ready to designate the city as a “Blue Community”.
In order to become a “Blue Community,” a number of motions need to be passed, including one banning the sale of bottled water at all city facilities and events, as well as one declaring water to be a “human right”.
Council had no problem with the latter motion, but CAO Gary Dyke says while doing his research, he came across nearly as many reasons not to approve the plan as there were to approve it.
So council has decided to have staff provide a more detailed report before any decisions are made.
Dyke says that report will be given to council at the regular meeting on June 17th, at the earliest.
