Twenty large native trees were planted along Tracey Park Drive last week.
The planting project was organized by the Quinte Field Naturalists who secured funding through Tree Canada, supported by Home Hardware.
The trees were supplied by Connon Nurseries and planted by Picture Perfect Landscaping.
Species include Basswood, Ironwood, White Pine, Sugar Maple, Ohio Buckeye and Shagbark Hickory.
Saturday, there was a celebration of the planting with the “Trees for Tracey” event.
Members of Quinte Field Naturalists were on hand to illustrate how important it is to plant trees and also explain all the benefits that trees provide, both to humans and wildlife.
Lindsay Nash, Outreach & Stewardship Coordinator for Quinte Conservation was also there to explain how different surfaces (ie. concrete, soil, grass and native vegetation) dramatically impacts how much runoff you get when there are rain events.
There were also make your own birdhouses and other displays.
